"The Resurrectionist"

1983

Written by:  A.H. Eckles

Directed by:  Frank Dunning

 Genre:  Drama/Mystery/Thriller

Taglines:  Loves returns in the most bizarre ways

Plot Summary:

Inspired by the Samuel Warren masterpiece, this gruesome tale of grave-robbing marked a turning point in the careers of Rogers and Dunning, and put a stamp on a new genre that hasn't been attempted since.  Rogers plays the bipolar wife of a mad scientist (Distefano) who winds up as the ultimate experiment when she dies a tragic death and is brought back to life three days later. Aside from the atmospheric cinematic experience, the film doesn't hold much in the way of pleasantries.  It's downright disturbing in most parts.  Set in the late 1800's, the dialog gets a bit repetitive and difficult to decipher at times due to the inability of Distefano to muster the proper audibles.  Having spent a mere four weeks in theatres, the film was recently treated to a DVD release where sales have peaked.  It should be noted that Dunning was to direct Rogers in another film 13 years later but Rogers' role was mysteriously recast at the last minute.  Dunning went on to direct several other blackbusters since.
